EdShed is a rapidly growing global EdTech start-up that helps millions of children practise their spelling, phonics and maths skills every day. Throughout the past few years, we have grown from a new product to the market leader. Based in Worcestershire, our products include teaching content, physical resources, mobile apps, a web game and a web-based teacher hub all driven from a central platform.


We are seeking a dynamic, motivated Teacher Support Specialist to join our team at EdShed Phonics & Spelling. This role will be based in Cape Town and involves supporting teachers with the implementation of our phonics and spelling programs. The ideal candidate will have previous teaching experience, especially in Primary English, and possess a deep understanding of phonics instruction. The role involves travelling to schools, providing in-person and online support, and conducting teacher training sessions.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Teacher Support & Training: Provide ongoing support to teachers in implementing EdShed's Phonics & Spelling programs, including in-person and virtual training sessions.
  • School Visits: Regularly visit schools to offer hands-on support, troubleshoot challenges, and strengthen relationships with teachers and administrators.
  • Customer-Facing Communication: Act as the primary contact for schools and educators, offering guidance and answering queries about our programs.
  • Phonics Expertise: Use your knowledge of phonics to assist teachers in creating effective lessons that align with best practices for literacy instruction.
  • Workshops & Presentations: Organize and lead professional development workshops for teachers and education professionals.
  • Feedback Collection: Gather and analyze feedback from teachers and schools to improve our products and services.
  • Travel: Comfortable with frequent travel within the Cape Town area to schools and education-related events.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the sales and product teams to ensure smooth onboarding of schools and support with any implementation challenges.
  • Work-from-Home Flexibility: Manage your schedule independently while providing remote support to teachers and schools. You will need to be comfortable working from home and using online tools for communication.
Additional Job Roles:
  • Program Implementation: Assist schools with the setup, installation, and integration of EdShed programs.
  • Content Support: Provide instructional advice and content expertise for teachers looking to integrate EdShed resources into their curriculum.
  • Report Writing: Document school visits, teacher feedback, and program effectiveness for internal reporting and improvement.
  • Technical Support: Offer basic technical assistance to teachers for troubleshooting and navigating the EdShed platform.
  • Outreach & Advocacy: Help in expanding EdShed’s presence in local schools by networking and promoting the benefits of our programs.

Job requirements

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (teaching qualification highly preferred).
  • At least 2 years of teaching experience in English, with strong knowledge of phonics.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with teachers and school staff.
  • Strong customer service orientation, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Experience with teacher training or mentoring is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Afrikaans and/or Xhosa is a plus.
  • Must own a vehicle and be comfortable traveling to various schools and locations within Cape Town.
  • Proficient with technology, including virtual meeting platforms and basic technical troubleshooting.
